All domestic organizations are inundated with more frequent, severe and sophisticated cyber-attacks. Security operations use a mix of automated, detective and preventative tools to identify and respond to the threats. Offensive cyber action (hacking back) is not necessarily a recommended or legal activity; however, when an active defense is employed in the form of cyber threat hunting, it virtualizes weaponization of the defensive tactics. Explore the current threat landscape, tool sets and defensive responses employed to disrupt advanced persistent threats early in the cyber kill chain.

John focuses on clients in the financial community, providing audit and assurance services. He has worked with public and nonpublic financial institutions and entities of varying sizes ranging from $100 million to greater than $50 billion in total assets. Prior to joining BKD, John served as an advisor under the Chief Accountant for the Southern District of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), an inspector with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and senior manager at a large international accounting firm.
