10 – 11 a.m. - I’m Going to Get Mine: The Rise of Retributive Fraud
Steve Dawson CPA, CFE of Dawson Forensic Analytics, PLLC
Why do individuals commit internal fraud? The pandemic significantly altered the answer to this question because the remote work environment, isolation, and feelings of instability resulted in a dramatic shift in how people think. The mindset of “Us” and “We” shifted to “Me” and “My” resulting in a rise in fraud perpetrated by desperate people attempting to “get what they deserve” through retributive fraud. Learn some considerations for fostering “connection,” along with practical applications for updated internal control design to address this disturbing fraud trend.

11 a.m. – Noon -  Introduction to the Center for Audit Quality's Accounting+ Campaign
Liz Barentzen, Vice President, Operations and Talent Initiatives, the Center for Audit Quality
A recent market research study was aimed at better understanding the student mindset, motivations and priorities when making decisions about their careers. The CAQ is utilizing this research - which includes qualitative focus group data and quantitative survey data of almost 4,000 high school, community and four-year college students - in developing a targeted brand awareness campaign - Accounting+. This campaign will specifically reach Black and Hispanic high school and college students thereby increasing the pipeline overall, and help with the overreaching goal in making this profession a more inclusive one.
