Jim Oliver

TSCPA Chairman


Originally from Alabama, Jim Oliver, CPA has lived in San Antonio since 1967. He attended Princeton and then Baylor where he received his BBA in 1976. He started a CPA practice in 1981 after three years on the audit staff of Peat Marwick and two years in industry. 
Oliver joined his CPA practice with the Houston-based CPA firm Calvetti Ferguson in December 2016. Thirteen years after founding Financial Life Advisors LLC, he sold the registered investment advisor firm to his long-time associate in January 2017.

After receiving his CPA license in 1978, he joined TSCPA and the San Antonio Chapter, becoming active in 1981 on the chapter’s Taxpayer Education Committee and the same committee at the state level in 1984. He has served in various leadership roles for the chapter, including president in 1992-93, and currently serves on the chapter's PAC committee and as a legislative Key Person.

His service at TSCPA has included more than two dozen committees and task forces, chairing seven of those. From 1993 to 1996, he served as technical editor for Today’s CPA magazine. From 2010 to 2013 he was an Executive Board member. He continued as Treasurer-elect, and then as Treasurer in 2014-15. He also serves as a TSCPA member on the AICPA Council.

TSCPA has honored him with its Distinguished Public Service and Young CPA of the Year awards. He has also been given Special Recognition twice.

He and his wife Tavia focus their current community involvement on church volunteering and their respective Bible Study Fellowship classes. He also serves on the financial accountability team for Impact Ministries and on the University of the Incarnate Word Planned Giving Council. When time permits, he and his wife enjoy traveling, particularly to spend time with their three daughters, Mikhail, Landry and Aubrey, but especially with their grandchildren.
